SpellStar — Privacy Policy

Overview

SpellStar is developed and published by Lydex Solutions Ltd. We take children's privacy extremely seriously. This policy explains what data the app handles and how it is protected.

Data Stored on Device

SpellStar stores limited data locally on the device to provide its core functionality. This includes:

  • Child's first name (used for personalisation within the app)
  • School year selection
  • Spelling list content and learning progress
  • Parent/guardian PIN (stored as a secure hash, not in plain text)
  • Avatar customisation and badge progress

All of this data is stored exclusively on the device. None of it is transmitted, uploaded, or shared with any server, service, or third party.

Data Collection

SpellStar does not collect or transmit any personal data. Specifically:

  • No data is sent to any external server
  • No analytics or telemetry are collected
  • No crash reports are sent
  • No cookies or tracking technologies are used
  • No account creation is required

Third-Party Services

SpellStar does not include any third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, advertising networks, or external APIs. No data is shared with any third party.

Internet Connectivity

SpellStar does not require an internet connection to function. The app operates entirely offline. No network requests are made during use.

Advertising

The app contains no advertisements of any kind.

In-App Purchases

SpellStar offers optional paid tiers through the App Store. These transactions are handled entirely by Apple and are subject to Apple's own privacy policy. Lydex Solutions does not receive or store any payment information.

Children's Privacy

SpellStar is designed for children aged 4–11 and is built to comply with:

  • COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) — no personal information is collected from children
  • UK Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code) — the app is designed with children's best interests as a primary consideration, with privacy settings at their highest by default

The parent/guardian area is protected by a PIN gate. Only a parent or guardian with the PIN can access progress reports and app settings.

Data Retention and Deletion

All data is stored on the device only. Uninstalling the app removes all data permanently. Parents can also reset all data from within the PIN-protected settings area.
